PUPPET SHOW – THE MYSTERY OF JOYVILLE HD – REVIEW (73%)

10 Apr

Puppet Show – The Mystery of Joyville HD is a puzzle game by Big Fish Games Inc.

The story behind the game is that are a dectective called in to help investigate the disappearance of people in Joyville. Simon, a young boy has gone missing three days ago, can you find out what is going on and save him.

The idea behind the game is to enter the various buildings in turn and solve the puzzles within. Most of the puzzles are spotting the hidden item, but some use items that you have collected in game. These other puzzles are very simple, with a hint that tells you how to complete most.

The application is controlled by tapping on the items in the area or puzzle, often if an item is of interest some light sparkles will appear above it for a moment.

The game is downloaded for free, and you are able to play the first few areas, you will then need to unlock the game to play the rest of the game. This allows you to get a pretty good idea of if you will like the game or not, and more than likely if you are a puzzle fan you will enjoy the demo.

The graphics and sound are both good. The areas in the game are beautifully drawn.

On the upside:

  • Excellent puzzle and spot game
  • Great user interface.
  • A little spooky

On the downside:

  • Sometimes left looking for the way back out of an area.
  • Short, and left you waiting for a sequel (not much additional game after you unlock)

Overall, there are hundreds of spot the hidden objects games on the iPad. Puppet Show is good, but not the most outstanding. There are two few puzzles for the price and I prefer that the objects disappeared from the list, rather that staying and making me scroll to see what I am missing. This is not to say this game is not without its merits, the story line is good. The application is free to look at, so worth a download if you are interested.
