FREE APP ROUND-UP (MAY 22 2012) [TOUCHPAD]

Another two application get the round up treatment.

WebOS World Services : 60%

This application is more of an advertisement for the Villo website and the services that Villo offers for webOS. The app only offers four buttons on lauch. A device upgrade service, which is US only, a chat demo, a overview of Villo services and an about page. Only the chat demo is active, but you will need someone to chat with. I am sure people who use the Villo service may be interested in this application and what it may offer in the future, however, not much here that is not more easily accessed on the villo website.

Italian Fiscal Codes – Codici Fiscali : 55%

This truly is a niche application. It allows you to enter the name, date of birth and region of a person allows you to calculate their  Italian Fiscal Code (Social Security Number). I am really not sure who would want to do this as the person should already have their own Social Security Number available. The app itself is simple to use and well laid out, so if you are an Italian who has lost their social security number and trust the app to calculate it, then give this one a go.

FREE APP ROUND-UP (MAY 17 2012) [TOUCHPAD]

Another two application get the round up treatment.

Make A Scene: Outer Space Lite : 70%

Most of the “Make A Scene” application now have a lite version to try. To be honest this is my favorite of the series. As with the other lite versions this application is a locked down version on the paid application. However, from the way they have padlocked the option is gives the user a very good idea of the addition features they will get in the paid version. Your kids will be able to make some images with the limited sticker set (16 stickers available) and several of the backgrounds. If you let you kids play this you can expect them to soon complain about the padlocks and ask you to get the full version.

Magic Puzzles: Force of Nature : 68%

This application allows you to select from 10 pictures and then put together a jigsaw of the photos. This game is more for adults or older kids as the jigsaw sizes start at 42 pieces and go up to 288 pieces. The picture are good, with some real and others photoshopped. The jigsaw side of the game works well and works as it should. The user interface for navigating the pictures needs a little work, as you need to tap onto them to move the list along. Advertisements are plentify within this application, they are on every page and a pop up before and after every game. Again this is another free puzzle game, but could have just been added as extra images on one of the other Magic Puzzle applications.

FREE APP ROUND-UP (MAY 14 2012) [TOUCHPAD]

Another two application get the round up treatment.

Peg Puzzle: abc 123 Trial : 70%

We have reviewed the full version of this Peg Puzzles games before, however, this is a trial version for people who are not sure about the apps to try. This is one of the better trials I have used, as it gives a solid idea of what the application does and still have enough of a game here for the kids to enjoy. It is limited to lowercase a to l in the letters and 1-8 in numbers. It is well worth a download if you have kids to see how they get on with it, just be ready to buy the full application shortly after.

How Do You Do This In SAS? : 45%

This is not so much a trial or free application, but an advertisement for a series of e-books. The application itself contains only three pages. An introduction page, an about the Author page and an example code page. The application itself is well laid out, easy to read and easy to navigate. However, all you really get is an email link to the app developers and links to the e-books. There is no free content here for those interested in SAS.

FREE APP ROUND-UP (MAY 08 2012) [TOUCHPAD]

Another two application get the round up treatment.

Sketch%2520Pad : 55%

This is a yet another basic drawing application. It is so basic I will describe all the functions here, with 11 boxes at the top of the screen, which do the following: Lower pen size, increase pen size, red, purple, blue, yellow, green, orange, black, white and clear the page. The app works fairly well, but trying to draw some objects are impossible (like a very small circle). Erasing is done with changing the pen to white. Lacks colours like pink if you want to draw a human looking face. Even the HP App Catalog contains formating issues so you cannot see the correct name of the app, developer or description. The app is called Sketch Pad really.

Beijing AIR : 40%

This is a fairly basic application that tells you the current air quality in Beijing. It displays the air quality as a number and then below that gives some advice for that air quality. Every time I have looked it has said Unhealth for a 24 hour period. You can look back on the last 36 hours. There is no history past that date and not much else to the application. This application could not be more niche if it tried, aiming at Touchpad owners who are interested in the air quality in Beijing.

FREE APP ROUND-UP (MAY 03 2012) [TOUCHPAD]

Another two application get the round up treatment.

Peg Puzzle: Shapes Trial : 64%

We have reviewed this Peg Puzzles games before, however, this is a trial version for people who are not sure about the apps to try. The application is set up to show the categories of pegs on offer, but only the fruits are available. This category is open fully and will give you a good idea of what you will get. When I first installed the application crashed several times, but after a reboot of the Touchpad it worked fine. Overall, this is a nice demo and if you are interested in getting the full version it is worth checking out.

Gypsy Heart Tour : 55%

The application covers Milet Cyrus’s Gypsy Heart tour. The application is pretty simple with the tour dates, links to tweets for the artist and the offical tour feed. There are also a nice picture section to look through. There is nothing within the application you could not get from the internet and this is just a basic fan app. The navigation is not great with you having to tap on the top bar to go back pages, something the developer had to point out in the app description rather than coming up with a solution. Fans of Miley Cyrus may be interested in this one.
