GEE UP (KINDNESS) – S.O.T.W. – REVIEW (64%)

Gee Up by Kindness is this weeks free single of the week.

This song is a good release from iTunes.

Apple has this marked as an alterative track.

The music track is good. The music has an electronic sound with guitar and a beat box backing track.

The song is sung by a male singer, the singers voice is sometimes lost to the music, but generally clear.

Overall, this is a good track, but is very short at only 2 minutes. The song really does not go anywhere. Even for such a short song the lyrics are repeated a lot. There is not enough of this song to grab my interest, but it was easy listening.

ALWAYS WAITING (MICHAEL KIWANUKA) – S.O.T.W. – REVIEW (75%)

Always waiting by Michael Kiwanuka is this weeks free single of the week.

This song is a good release from iTunes.

Apple has this marked as a R&B/Soul track.

The music track is good. The music has a live feel with acostic guitar and minor moments of other instruments. The song has a blues feel to it. For me the song was a little on the long side, but no overly so.

The song is very well sung by a male singer, the singer has a musical voice and very clear with the lyrics.

Overall, this is a really nice track. It is not my cup of tea, but you can tell that this song will have its fans and well deserved to. If you like your music slow moving and relaxing with a soulful feel then this is well worth a listen.

HISTORY BOOK (DRY THE RIVER) – S.O.T.W. – REVIEW (65%)

History Book by Dry the River is this weeks free single of the week.

This song is a good release from iTunes.

Apple has this marked as a pop track.

The music track is good. The music has a live feel with acostic guitar and drums, and towards the end other musical instruments adding to the end of the song.

The song is sung by a male singer, the lyrics are clear and the singer and his voice matches well with the music.

Overall, this is good track. I found it a little bit slow moving for me, but generally it sounded nice and was clearly sung. For me it sounds like a slower more folky version of Keane. Not really my cup of tea, but I am sure there will be some fans out there for this type of music.

SAME GAME (BLEEDING KNEES CLUB) – S.O.T.W. – REVIEW (55%)

Same Game by Bleeding Knees Club is this weeks free single of the week.

This song is a fair release from iTunes.

Apple has this marked as an alterative track.

The music track is OK. The music is drum and guitar heavy and nothing really grabs you.

The song is sung by a male singer, the lyrics are generally clear. It is clear the singer has not had any real singing lessons as he croaks his way through the song.

Overall, this is fair track. I found it a little dull and repetitive for me. This appears to be a group of three young guys that are finding their musical way. The song is not bad, but it sounds like the band have to find their way.

COMEBACK KID (SLEIGH BELLS) – S.O.T.W. – REVIEW (50%)

Comeback Kid by Sleigh Bells is this weeks free single of the week.

This song is a fair release from iTunes.

Apple has this marked as an alterative track.

The music track I really did not get on with. The music would switch from soft to heavy as the song continued. The soft side is nice, but the heavier section especially at the start of the track really did not work for me.

The song is sung by a female singer, the lyrics are generally clear, however, the music overpowers the voice track for almost half the song.

Overall, this is fair track there were moments of the song that I liked and others that I hated. The track switching did not work for me, as the heavier part of the track was too grating from me. Bands like Creed, Evanescence and System of a Down pull this switching off well and I like these artist, but this track shows how it can be done poorly.
