Flixi is an exhibition tool and is released by Under Clouds Games.
“Flixi is a unique widget based Exhibition app for TouchPad. Build your own favorite screensaver: pick from a number of predefined layouts, fill them with widgets as you wish.”
With our recent review of Dock one of our readers reminded us that we had not reviewed a very similar application called Flixi. So as always, we had to investigate.
Flixi allows you to see information on screen while the Touchpad is charging.
As in the Dock review, that I do not have the Touchpad is not on the desk when charging, so for me, this is not an application I really would need.
The application offers the following items for display:
- Google Calendar
- News & RSS
- Web Page
You are given select layout modes for the screen – ranging from full screen for one widget to the screen split into two, three or four panels. There are a large amount of these and will allow you to easily get the look you want.
Generally all the widgets have lots of options available for how they look and work. The News & RSS option has several feeds available to select from, however, there does not seem to be an option to select your own (and internetgumshoe’s feed is missing).
You can also set up more than one default screen, so you can have one for work and one for home for example.
The user interface is well designed and easy to navigate.
On the upside:
- Good user interface.
- Lots of options for setting things up.
- Great use of Exhibition mode
On the downside:
- News & RSS feeds limited in selections.
Overall, this is a great application if you have your Touchpad docked and can view the screen. Clearly I need to rate against “Dock” with this one, and I feel as far as set up and usage Flixi has the edge of polish and usability although the functionality is very similar. So for you have the extra cash available for Flixi for me it is the better option of the two at the moment.
