NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD DEFENSE [TOUCHPAD] – REVIEW (78%)

18 Apr

Night of the Living Dead Defense is a tower defence game released by ArtofBytes UG.

“Build your strategic defenses and try to survive the Night Of The Living Dead! Love zombies? Love to shoot ’em dead? Get ready to save humanity! Brought to you by the creators of GRave Defense HD and based on George Romero’s cult classic horror flick.”

For those who have played GRave Defense HD you will immediately see the similarity between the two games, even down to the menu systems.

The game puts you in control of a map that you can fill with human survivors and fight off the zombie hordes.

After a short training level you can launch into the game itself. Zombie rats and birds will be the first of your foes, and it is take a little while for the first real zombies to turn up.

As you kill the zombies, you gain money that can then be use to purchase or upgrade the defenders.

The game offers a Campaign with three scenerios and a Survival mode. You have four levels of difficulty (casual, normal, hard and insane) so you have some control over how hard the game will be. However, even with this you need to make sure you use your money wisely and place the towers well as the game is very unforgiving of mistakes.

Controls are your standard tower defence ones with placing  the survivors on a set emplacement points then clicking on them to upgrade etc. You can also pick up objects dropped by the mutants like money, health packs and explosives.

The graphics and sound are both good, the graphics have been tweaked from GRave Defense, but some of the survivors etc do lack on animation side.

On the upside:

  • Well designed tower defence game.
  • A Movie Tie In on the Touchpad

On the downside:

  • Random routes make it hard to plan the best defence.
  • Some monsters move so fast it is almost impossible to stop them.
  • Did not really make enough of the Movie Tie In elements. (Still images on each level and “Coming to get you barbara” looping every fews minutes is not enough)

Overall, this is a solid tower defence game. If you are a fan of the GRave Defense HD game and what more, then you will be happy. Fans of the film may be a little disappointed with the use of the license. This game is worth a look for tower defense fans.
