Aero Vacation is a Freemium “Build A Plane” game and is released by Chillingo Ltd.

“See the world on an Aero Vacation
! Captain the ultimate airship in this highflying adventure. Keep your passengers happy as you travel around the world. Upgrade your ship with marvellous facilities like roller-coasters and water parks that are sure to make your airship the greatest vacation destination to sail the skies.”

The idea of the game is to build the ultimate airship / plane. You will get passengers and they will fly to various destinations aroud the world. As you play your passengers will give you money depending on the quality and quantity of rooms in the plane. This money can be invested back into the airship to make it bigger and add more rooms and functions.

There are three main resources to control in the game coins (for buying items), energy (needed to upgrade rooms) and Aero credits (used to reduce waiting times by 1 credit per hour or buying special rooms).

As your progress in the game you can create new room for the passagers and new destinations will open.

You are set goals to achieve, by your “assistant” and the passengers that will give bonus cash, aero credits or energy.

There is also a social element to the game allowing you to add friends, sending them a boost when visiting their plane.

On the Freemium side, you do not need to use real world cash to continue playing the game, and you may be able to play for about half an hour or so before you really need to start waiting for things to happy. If you are willing to play twice a day you can still progress at a steady rate. If you want to sit and play it for hour after hour, then you will find yourself waiting and wanting to spend real world money to speed things up.

The game is controlled by selecting items from the menu and placing them on the plane. Things on the plane can be clicked on and a menu will appear at the side of the screen for it, so you can move them (an option you will use a lot) or upgrade etc.

The graphics and sound are very good.

On the upside:

  • Well designed game.
  • Lots of feelings of achievement as your plane grow and new things are built.
  • Keeps you coming back for more.

On the downside:

  • The Aero Credits side of the Freemium – the Aero Credit hard to gain later in the game, and some rooms cost hundreds of them.
  • Costs and Time increases as you advance, I gained a level and the rooms doubled in price, I was saving up for 70,000 and suddenly it cost P140,000.
  • Notifications automatically on, so you will need to go into settings to control them.

Overall, this is one of the better “Build A …” style games I have played. The Freemium is a little on the heavy side for me, it is possible to play the game without it, but it can be very much a waiting game if you do not wish to play for things. Therefore, if you are someone who cannot wait this game will cost you a lot of money and avoid if you don’t have the cash. Otherwise, it is well worth checking out, just do not be surprise if you are tempted to make an in-app purchase. I just wished the prices and time were not a moving goal post as you advance.
