Hippo Quest HD is a physics based puzzle game released by Northlight Games.
“HippoQuest is a rather cute looking physics puzzler developed by game design students from the second semester.“
This game is a very similar to the iOS game, Ragdoll Blaster. It has you firing a cannon on the Hippo’s back to fire balls at the target (round face) that is somewhere on the screen. You can fire as many shots as you need to complete the level, but completing the level with the fewest shots will get you the most point.
The game is levelled based with 20 levels per area. Currently there are sixty levels in the game.
There are two ways to play the game, one where you can play any level or the adventure mode.
For me, the game is fun to play, but in some ways overly simple. The game is seems to be based on is now on its third version and has added a lot to the gameplay over the time. This game makes use of some of these specials, but only uses them for a level or two, and then they go away. For example, there is a teleporter on one of the levels, but after its appearance it does not return. This is a bit of a waste.
The game can be played through in about an hour, one or two of the levels are very difficult, but generally most are easy to solve.
The graphics and sound are good, but really the graphics are too big, which limits the gameplay as the screens are fixed and do not go past the full screen.
On the upside:
- Fun game.
- Fans of the original Ragdoll Blaster will enjoy.
- Addictive gameplay
On the downside:
- Too easy to finish.
- Could have made a lot more of some of the features that appear in single levels (teleporters, gravity etc)
- With smaller graphics more complex puzzles could have been created.
Overall, I liked this game, and as it was done by a student starting out with webOS I do not wish to be too hard on the game. If you buy it you will get your 79p of fun out of the game, but not much more. With a few changes and enhancements to game it could become a great game. I hope that the developer gets the time to sit down and really make this game into something impressive, as most of the ground work as already been done.
