TWINGO! [IOS] – REVIEW (84%)

17 Mar

TwinGo! is a puzzle game released by Chillingo Ltd.

“The two Weather Twins, Fuyu and Natsu have lost the stars, now it’s up to you to help get them back. One is a glowing ball of flame and the other is made of ice, and you’re going to have to get them to work together in this unique, innovative puzzle game that will surprise you right to the end. “

The idea behind the game move Fuya and Natsu around a maze puzzle. This would be easy, if the twin creatures did not move at the same time. Swipe up and they both move upwards, and if there is a hole one will fall and you need to restart the puzzle again.

There are generally walls and other things on the level to block the moved of one, to allow you to navigate to the correctly coloured exit buttons that will spring you off the level and onto the next.

The puzzle are further complicated by having 3 stars on the levels to collect. On the first few levels this is very easy, however, as the game progresses if becomes more difficult to get all three. You may get one or two, but the third is often hidden away and will tax your mind to find a solution to get it, often you will give up and just move onto the next level planning to return later.

As you collect more stars you will unlock the later levels in the game.

There are 4 areas in the game, with around 30 levels in the first three and 15 in the last. Meaning you will be playing this game for some time. To keep things interesting the later areas begin to add powers to the stars, so they may freeze a creature for one movement, or make the creature move twice in one swipe.

The sounds and graphics are both very good, with a nice graphical style.

On the upside:

  • Very nice presentation
  • Tricky puzzles
  • Will keep you playing some time.

On the downside:

  • Some puzzles are very tricky, but you can skip if you are completely stuck, or select to see the solution after several more minutes.
  • There was a crashing issue with the app with iOS 5.1 that you may have heard about, but this has now been fixed and the app works fine.

Overall, this is a great puzzle game. There are no time limits so you can sit down and think about the solution. This is a game that some casual players will love. It lacks any real excitement, but I feel that for most people this is not an issue. Some of the puzzles will annoy, but generally they are solvable if you leave a star or two behind. Puzzle fans should take a look at this one, especially at the 69p price.
