Coco Loco is a physics puzzle game with Angry Bird styling released by Chillingo Ltd.
“It’s time for the Cocoa Bean Guardians to ‘Mallow’ out. Take control of a troop of fearless marshmallow heroes as you set out to rescue your friends from the candy clutches of the nasty chocolate guardians. Traverse across strange wildernesses using each Marshies’ special skill and show those chocolate chumps that you’re not as soft as you look!”
Your people the Mallows have been kidnapped, dressed in strange clothing and tied up in various puzzle based levels and it is your job to free them.
Gameplay wise, Coco Loco borrows heavily from several of your favorite iOS games, bring them together in a very fun and entertaining way.
The game offers four areas to play through each with 15 levels, so giving you 60 levels at this time, with the promise of more on the way.
Each of the Marshmallows have special abilities like flying fast and cutting through things, exploding and to make it slightly different slamming down on buildings from above.
Some levels do mix up the action a little by adding a chocolate cannon that can be fired Sprinkle style at the area.
There are so very good puzzles in the game, that need to be considered before using your limited characters to solve the level, but in the main most levels are straight forward.
The game is controlled in the standard Angry Bird method, pulling back, setting your aim and firing (batting) the marshmallow into the air.
For me, the game feels a little short, as I had finished the 60 levels in about 2 hours, there were still some stars to still get, but at this stage there is not much pushing you to play the levels again. Even if you are stuck on a level there is even Fluffy big dog that destroys everything on the level (like mighty eagle), I did not need to use this feature to complete the game.
The graphics and sound are very good, with the Marshmallows all having a bit of character.
On the upside:
- Nice Marshmallow characters.
- Fun to play.
On the downside:
- A little on the short side.
- Not a well balanced game, some levels are too easy and several levels need excellent aim and timing.
Overall, this is a fun game to play and nicely designed. If Angry Birds did not exist this game would be flying up the charts as a top seller, however, due to the similarity a lot of people will just call this another Angry Bird clone, which is really is more than that. If you are looking for another good physic based puzzle game you should download this game, especially at the price as you will get your monies worth.
