Fancy Pants is a level based platform game released by Chillingo Ltd.
“Join Fancy Pants Man in his first ever portable outing on the App Store as you help rescue his little sister, Cutie Pants, from the worst pirates ever.”
There are lots of levels to explore as you go about your quest. There are lots of enemies and dangers as well. To start the game you have no weapon to fight with and need to slide and jump onto the heads of the enemies to attack them. Later you gain a weapon and can then attack using special moves.
There are several weird and wacky things that happen in the game that should at the very least make you smile.
As you progress in the game you unlock new heads, pants and weapons graphics to put onto Fancy Pants Man, these have no effect on gameplay, but can produce some nice looks.
Gameplay wise, you will enter an area jumping and fighting your way to the exit and your goal. There are three stars on every level to collect, but these are often hard to get to. Always there, but inches from your reach.
The levels are really nicely designed, being challenging, but not impossible.
The game by virtual buttons for left and right movement (additional arrows appear for up and down when swimming) and buttons for jump, slide and attack.
The graphics and sound are very good, the artwork is basic and wonderfully simple at the same time.
On the upside:
- Well designed platforms and “puzzles”.
- Cute characters.
On the downside:
- Getting the stars to get to the new worlds is tricky leaving your in the main storyline for a while, but the modes and levels can be replayed to try and get better results and those stars.
- The weapon takes a while to turn up, something my son never stopped complaining about.
- Ctystal tab at the bottom of the screen during menus.
Overall, this is a wonderful platform game which I really enjoyed playing. The strange cartoon drawing styling works really well and makes for loveable characters. This game will keep you playing for some time and loving every moment. Well worth downloading especially at the 69p price point.
