Towers N’ Trolls HD is a tower defence game released by Ember Entertainment.
“Defend your kingdom from invading troll hordes, with addictive quick-to-learn but difficult-to-master gameplay. Towers N’ Trolls combines fast-paced arcade action with quick-thinking strategy.”
The game puts you in control of the defences of the kingdom that needs to stop the advance of the troll hordes.
As you kill the trolls and their allies, you gain money that can then be use to purchase upgrades and more towers.
The game offers a Campaign with six area which as five levels to each area (so 30 levels in all). You have three levels of difficulty (casual, normal and brutal) so you have some control over how hard the game will be. Normal can be fairly hard after the second area so you need to use your money, power ups and place the towers wisely as the game is very unforgiving of mistakes.
Each level have their own power ups, normally you are given one or two additional weapons like gas clouds, land mines or similar to help defeat the horde. These are limited in use, normally only three of each.
Controls are your standard tower defence ones with placing a tower along the path then clicking on them to upgrade etc.
The trolls and their allies drop gems that can be used to purchased additional power ups of the level.
The graphics and sound are both good, although the music seems to not really match the game, I got the feeling the music for this type of game would have been darker and less bouncy.
On the upside:
- Well designed tower defence game.
- Three difficulty levels and 30 levels should keep you going some time.
On the downside:
- Strange selection of music.
- Only three designs of towers in the area stages of the game.
Overall, this is one of the better tower defense games that I have played. The levels are generally a good length not taking too long and after tough enough to give a challenge. This is a quality product at a reasonable price. If you are a fan of tower defense this one is well worth a download, just be ready to turn down the volume if the music seems odd to you.
