Bubble in Paradise is a word game released by

“Welcome to the under-sea world of words, a true paradise for those who love to liven up their lexicon! Pop the bubbles containing letters to spell out words before the screen fills up. Collect bonus letters, stars and play through the many different modes in this word game with a difference!”

The idea behind this game is bubbles will rise from the base of the screens. Each of the bubbles contains a single letter. The bubbles grow bigger the longer they are on the screen.

You need to form a three (or more) letter word to get rid of those bubbles. The game uses English spellings as well as American so can be fairly forgiving.

As the game progresses you unlock “power ups” that can make the game easier by doing things like frozening the bubbles (which stops them growing) etc. There are seven power ups, but only five good ones and two that make the game more tricky to play.

The game offers four modes. There is a normal mode, that can be played immediately and then Battle, Endless and Blitz that can be unlocked as your gain enough stars to do so.

There are two ways to complete a word you have selected in the game. Double tapping the last letter of the word you have built or press that tick at the top of the screen. I would use the double tapping on the letter as the tick at the top of the screen is in the same location as the hint button (see downside below).

The graphics and sound at both good, but are both game, but nothing special.

There are in-app purchases for unlock all the modes and to buy additional hints.

On the upside:

  • Nicely designed word game.
  • Tests your spelling.

On the downside:

  • The hint icon is swapped with the use the word button, meaning you can accidently use the hints by mistake. When you tap a hint button that hint is lost whether you use it or not.
  • You unlock a speed up “power up” that makes the game even harder than it was already.
  • You are often left with huge bubbles with I, U and Z as the letters bubbling up are not great for clearing them.

Overall, this is a fun little word game. If you like your word games it is worth a look especially at 69p. Hopefully the flaws with the game can be ironed out by the developers, if they are the game will be greatly improved.
