‘NCOGNITO [TOUCHPAD] – REVIEW (78%)

02 Feb

‘Ncognito is a file hiding application and is released by Code-Crunch.com

“Are you the business professional with work-related documents on your device? Have you captured “special moments” with your device’s camera that shouldn’t be seen by everyone? If so, ‘Ncognito is for you!”

Notes HD allows you simply hide and password protect your professional or personal files so they are not easily viewed on the Touchpad.

From a quick glance the application appears to be very simple to use and you can quickly hide the files that you do not want someone else to see.

You can select to either hide files or folders within the application. If you select a file, you can drill down into the folders available and select the files you wish to hide. Once hidden you can add a password to the application and when someone picks up the Touchpad they will not be able to see the files in the Photo and Video application for example.

The user interface is simple and clean. The preferences are purely to switch on a password.

The big issue with this application is the way it hides the files. If you are using this application to stop your Grandma from seeing sexy photos of your girlfriend then this application is perfect. However, if you are against someone with some tech skills, they will soon be able to get to see the hidden images and videos, especially if the Touchpad has a file management software (like Gemini File Manager) installed.

On the upside:

  • Simple User Interface.
  • Able to quickly hide files from the non-technical.

On the downside:

  • Photo and Video app sometimes shows the true number of images in a folder if you do not hide all the images in a folder. (1 image showing, but shows 7 images in folder)
  • If you do not select a file to hide and cancel back out the application sticks with a grey box on-screen.

Overall, this is a very good application it is simple and does the job. If you do not have anything other than games and default applications on the Touchpad it will be hard for a standard user to see the files once hidden. However, if you share your Touchpad with someone who has tech skills and applications that bypass the hiding then you do run the risk of someone seeing those hidden files, so it is not a perfect solution.
