Backyard Bounce is a physics based puzzle game released by

Let’s bounce! Bounce the ball to the hoop in this ingenious puzzle game. Use objects from setsquares to bowling balls to knock, roll and bounce the basketball to the goal.

I have to mention as soon as I loaded this game I thought another incredible machine style game. I even remember playing another similar game from Clickgamer called Civiballs. This is really more of the same.

You are tasked with trying to solve logic puzzles, where you have a basketball that need to go into the basket that is located somewhere on the screen, however, you are not able to move them directly, you have to use objects and other balls on the levels to get the basketball into the basket.

The game offers three areas (Backyard, Junkyard and Barnyard) each of these has 24 levels for a total at the time of release there are 72 levels, with more on offer.

Along the way you can try and collect the three whistles on the level by getting the balls to touch them. You are awarded three stars at the end of the level, you will need 50 of these to more onto the second area.

The gameplay moves has you placing and rotating objects to move the basket ball in the right direction. There are hints on the level, these will help you complete the level, but will not help in getting all the whistles.

The graphics and sound are both nice, but nothing special. The in-game graphics are functional rather than amazing.

On the upside:

  • Some great puzzles.
  • Universal.

On the downside:

  • Game is fairly short. (finished (without all whistles) in around three hours)
  • If you double tap on an item it goes back into the inventory, rotating needs two fingers on the item, so sometimes you will be trying to rotate and the item will disappear back into the inventory.
  • Positioning of the items needs to be exact a times.

Overall, this game is a fun brain teaser and works well. The puzzles are at the right level, tough, but not unsolvable and you can use the hints to get past hard puzzle. It is a shame that other games have gone before this, like CiviBalls, which I preferred.
