Streetbike: Full Blast is a driving / racing game released by Chillingo Ltd.
“Get ready to race… Race your superbike against other racers or against the clock in this throwback to classic arcade bike-racers. Watch scenery fly by as you power through complex and exciting tracks at breakneck speed!“
This game offers you a Street Battle mode which is like a champion and a quick play mode that offer several modes for the races, these are: Normal Race, Time Attack, Rush Hour, Money Chaser, 1 to 1, Wheelie, Pass Cars and Don’t Crash.
The races do not really have the high speed feel that the name implies, even when nitro is used.
Gameplay wise, the races have you racing up to 12 motor bikes and dodging traffic.
I have to say what hurts the game the most is the strange AI of the other vehicles, they will race ahead of you serving and dodging, and then will slam the brakes on allowing you to overtake them. In one race, I lost a race as two cars that were well ahead of me near the finishing line both slammed on their brakes and the finish line and I slammed into the back of them.
Controls are done with enough touch control or tilt. You then have virtual buttons for nitro and brakes. Both controls work well, but you may need to tweak a little to your liking.
The sound and graphics are generally good, but you are graphic gliches and the animation is poor.
There are in-app purchases to unlock the game (like tracks and motorbikes) without playing the game, but for me this is just a way of trying to make more money from the app (as they know it will not sell for more than 69p.)
On the upside:
- Plenty of tracks and bikes to unlock.
- Lots of challenges and modes.
On the downside:
- Other bikes slam on the brakes at random to help you win.
- Money earnt in game is not added to your total, unless you “win”
- The track design can be bad, and filling it with traffic can make them worst.
- You past right through signs and posts at the side of the road.
Overall, this is a reasonable motorbikes racing game, but it just feels cheap and unpolished. There are lots of great racing games out there, like Asphalt 6, that are much better. This really does feel like a cheap copy of Asphalt, but with motorbikes. This game will need some major tweaking to bring it up to some really good. Chillingo have another game called “Race illegal: High Speed 3D” which is better, but suffers from similar issues.
