Dr. Seuss Band is a music rhythm game and is released by Oceanhouse Media.
“Experience the excitement as Dr. Seuss Band transforms your device into a vibrant, energetic musical instrument that all ages will enjoy! Jam along with playful Seussian melodies or create your own whimsical masterpiece. As you play, you’ll unlock new instruments, silly effects and catchy songs. Contains over 120 combinations of sounds, so you’ll always have something new to discover!”
This game is a variation of the music rhythm games like tap, tap, revenge and guitar hero, where you need to tap buttons on the screen in time with the music.
The game allows you to select one of the three unlocked tracks available. You select the difficulty level Easy or Medium. As you progress, you will unlock more by getting good scores on the medium levels of difficulty, these will lock Hard modes and new sounds and effects.
As well as game side of things you also have a free style mode, that allows you to play music as a normal musical instrument.
The game offers in-app purchases, but these are no needed as the songs and sound effects can be unlocked by playing the game. So the in-apps for just for people who wish to short cut the process. The in-app purchases are a little expensive for what you get and for some reason the unlock all is 1p more expensive that unlocking music and sound effects seperately.
The game is controlled by tapping the buttons when the lines pass through them.
The graphics and sound are very good.
On the upside:
- Nicely designed interface.
- Lots of unlock.
On the downside:
- Only three songs unlocked at the start.
- The Medium and Hard are fairly tough for younger kids.
Overall, this is a nice music rhythm game which has a nice interface. For kids it is a fun little game, but I am not sure how much they will be unable to unlock on their own. You have the in-app purchase to short cut the process, but they are unnecessary. This is a interesting side project for Ocean House, using some of the music they have from their book titles.
