Reckless Racing is a top down racing game released by Polarbit.

“Reckless Racing mixes old-school racing gameplay with state of the art graphics and multiplayer features to brew a mean gumbo that takes the genre to a whole ‘nother level. Perfectly balanced controls lets you skid, slip and slide through some of the most beautiful tracks that you ever did see – leaving nothing but mud-splattered opponents, skidmarks and chaos in your wake.”

The application can be run in full screen or a set screen size that I believe is around the size of the iPad screen.

Reckless Racings offers a single player mode and also multiplayer via the internet, you will need a Polarbit account in order to use the Multiplayer functions.

The Single player game offers the selection of three game modes, these are: Dirt Rally (race against five other AI opponents) , Hot Lap (time trial – with Ghost car) and Delivery (pick up and take deliveries to locations on the map.)

I cannot really comment on the Multiplayer game as I could not find another player online during my review.

All the content of the iOS version is here including the bonus packs, so you have eight vehicles to select from. There are 18 tracks in all (5 original tracks and 5 reverse versions) and (4 Pack 1 tracks and 4 reverse versions.)

The graphics are very good with some nice landscapes. The games runs very smoothly. The music is generally good, especially if you like the banjo.

Comparsions have to be made to its iOS counterpart and they are almost identical, in fact it feels very much like a straight port. The onscreen keyboards and the menus for looking through the tracks available do not scroll as they should on a mac, with you having to hold down the mouse pointer and then pushing up and down, just like you were doing it with a finger on iOS.

On the upside:

  • Fun top down driving game.
  • Controls are very good, lots to select from to find the right one for you.
  • The addition of the delivery mode mini-game is very good and adds to the game.

On the downside:

  • If you own the iOS version there is nothing new here.
  • Single player can be completed fairly quickly, so you will need to like the multiplayer long term.

Overall, this game is excellent racing game. It has a very reasonable price tag. If you have played this before on iOS you will find nothing new here, but if you have never played before it is well worth a look, especially if you enjoy playing games with a physical keyboard.
