DEER HUNTER: AFRICAN SAFARI [TOUCHPAD] – REVIEW (74%)

25 Oct

Deer Hunter: Africian Safari is a virtual hunting game released by Glu Mobile.

“The most realistic mobile hunting franchise returns with an all new adventure: Deer Hunter: African Safari! Travel to African countries such as Namibia, Cameroon and Tanzania to bag exotic big game: Lion, Buffalo, Kudu, and even the mighty Rhinoceros!”

This game gives you the feeling on being on a hunting trip in Africa, with not risk of hurting real animals.

Once you start your hunt you are soon a big map. Select the area you wish to hunt and which weapon (this is limited to one of each at the start of the game), then explore the overhead map and locate the various african animals.

Once an animal is found then game changes to the hunting mode, with the gun scopes. You aim at the animal (using a scope if you have it) and you can steady yourself for a shot. You do not want to wait too long else the anilmals may be spooked.

As you progress in the game you will be offered more places to hunt and be able to obtain and use the better weapons.

The graphics of the animal are very good and the landscape is also well done. The sound does give the feeling of being on safari.

On the upside:

  • A good playable hunting game.
  • No real animal are hurt in the process (hunting elephants is bad… OK).

On the downside:

  • Limited gameplay, explore, hunt and shoot… repeat
  • The game can be a little slow to unlock new features.

Overall, this is another good hunting game from Glu. If you have been a fan of Deer Hunter in the past then this one is well worth a look, for others this is for a niche market and may not appeal.
