COLORLOGIC [IPHONE] – REVIEW (78%)

06 Oct

ColorLogic HD is a puzzle game released by Indigo Labox.

Quirky Let’s play with color logic. Thoroughly enjoy, brain teasers, puzzles unusual to you.”

This game is a mix between mine sweeper and colour puzzle.

The first thing I noticed about this game is that it is Japanese and has not been translated well into the English language as you can tell from the application decription above and the in-game instructions.

When I had worked out how the game worked which took a little while I must admit I found it is really well designed if tough puzzle game.

On one of the screens you can see the number of colours on each line (like two reds and three yellows) so you can work out the colouring by cross referencing the vertical and horizonal numbers.

On another screen, like mine sweeper, you have numbers to show the number of colours near that square. So a 9 means that there are colours all around and the block itself has a colour, 1 would show only one box nearby has a colour.

As you solve the puzzle you are drawing shapes on the page. The first puzzle is simple a red arrow pointing up, after that the puzzles become much more difficult.

The game offers 96 puzzles to play, and these will take some time to complete.

The game is controlled by tapping the colour you wish to place and then tapping the squares on which you wish to place them.

The graphics are functional and the sound is generally good.

On the upside:

  • Well designed puzzle game.
  • Tests the mind.

On the downside:

  • The puzzles are hard and there is no hint system to give you a head start or tip.
  • Instructions are not well translated into English.
  • User interface for the number of colours on the lines are confusing.

Overall, this is an excellent puzzle game which is let down a little by the translation of the text into England and the lack of hints. If you are a fan of puzzles then this one is well worth picking up. There is an iPad version of the game, being released on the 12th October and this solves some of the User interface issues, as everything is visible on one screen (81%)
