QUELL REFLECT HD [TOUCHPAD] – REVIEW (83%)

02 Oct

Quell Reflect HD is a puzzle game released by Fallen Tree Games.

The idea of the game is you are give a puzzle area to solve, you have a water droplet that needs to collect all the pearls on the level. The droplet can only move in one direction until it is stopped by an obstacle. There are various things placed on the level to stop you such as spikes, teleporters, one way blocks and blocks that merge to get rid of them.

Gameplay wise, you are given all the time in the world to complete the puzzle and can reset it at any time. You are given a limited number of moves to complete the level, you can go over this, but will not be awarded the hint point.

Quell Reflect HD offers over 80 levels to solve so should take some time to complete.

The game is controlled by a swiping the the droplet in the direction you wish it to travel.

The in-game graphics are basic, but functional along with some nice still artwork and the water droplets. The music is relaxing and beautiful.

For those who have played Quell this really is more of the same, some of the puzzles are tougher, but more than likely you are looking to continue the challenge of the first. This game is also out on iOS and it almost indentical at £1.49, so it fairly priced on the HP App Catalog.

On the upside:

  • Well designed puzzles.
  • Relaxing gameplay.
  • Nice in game hint system.

On the downside:

  • Need to realise that you can go off the sides of the screen if your path is not blocked.
  • Some levels you will need those hint points.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game, it both tests the mind and also you can take as long as you like on the puzzles. If you like Quell and want more than Quell Reflect is for you. Anyone who likes a more relaxed style of puzzle solving (no time limits) should really check this out. I like the multiple droplet puzzles so rated a little higher than the original.
