Boss Battles HD is a space shooter released by Backflip Studios.

“Join Rico the Raccoon as he takes up arms against the scum of the universe!”

This game is a simple shooter. You will select a boss to battle, then you will fly through a section of space (with a nice backdrop) and be attacked by a wave of enemies. Once you are past that way you will encounter the boss and need to work out its weak spots and take it down.

The attacks (wave and boss) drop gems (coins) that can be spent on upgrades, new weapons, pods and additional lives.

As you complete these boss missions more unlock and you will awarded a bounty for each mission.

You control the game by moving the ship with your finger, and the ship will automatically fire.

The graphics and sound are both very good.

As this is a free app it is ad supported, with ads for Backflip Studio’s other games, however, in this game it is overdone. A splash screen on opening, a bar on the mission selection screen, shop screen and even worst during the game itself. I love DragonVale another game by Backflip (this does not do this) and as I have it installed my keep advertising it me?

On the upside:

  • A fast and fun shooter
  • Lots of power ups to purchase.

On the downside:

  • In game add is far too big.
  • Very basic gameplay.

Overall, this shooter is good in small doses. The waves are quick and there are some nice power ups. This game is not going to win any awards, but it is fun and free.
