Tap-Tap Rockets HD is unique defence game released by Pixilabs Software Inc.

“A gigantic asteroid field is drifting through space threatening all planets in the system! Use your rockets to destroy as many asteroids as possible before they collide with any planets.”

The game has you defending a number of planets. Each of the planets has a number of shields and missiles orbiting them. As you play the game asteroids will enter the screen from random locations. You need to fire the missiles from orbit of your planet at the asteroids to destroy them. Missiles will only travel in a straight line so you need to time the launch. Once a missile is launched another missile orbiting that planet will become active and may be on the other side of the planet.

If an asteroid hits your planet it loses a shield, lose all the shields on all your planets and it is game over.

The game keeps things interesting by adding elements, like additional planets, planet movement and black holes.

There are a few “power ups” on the way. These can clear the asteroids or freeze them, replenish your missiles or shields or just give more points.

The offers 27 levels, split into 3 constellations of 9 areas. You need to get a number of stars for each level. If you get one, you will unlock the next level, two on all areas the next constellation.

The game is controlled selecting one of the planets (not needed if only one planet) and then tap the fire button when you want to release the highlighted missile.

The graphics and music are both good, but more functional. For me, one of the sound effects did not work correctly and get feedback from the speak.

On the upside:

  • A nice twist on a defence game.
  • Unique gameplay.

On the downside:

  • Some sound break up.
  • Lack of controls sometimes leaves you feeling annoyed.

Overall, this is an enjoyable and unique game which is simple to pick up and play. However, the lack of interaction and sometimes dull moments stop the game from being a true masterpiece. This game is much more for a casual gamer who wants a more relaxed style of defence game.
