Anomaly Warzone Earth is a twist on your standard defence game released by Chillingo Ltd.
It is the year 2018, Earth has been attacked by alien invaders who have taken control of Bagdad, you are a commander of the human forces who need to fight the aliens.
The game opens with some nice FMV that tells the story of the invasion.
Gameplay wise, it is very similar to a tower defence game with a scrolling screen, however, in this game you are the enemy moving down the roads and the towers are the alien defences.
At the start of the level you will be given cash to purchase vehicles and you will be able to select your route through the level.
As you progress through the level you are awarded cash for blowing up alien tower and collecting resources. With the cash you have purchase the usual extra vehicle and upgrades. Also when an alien tower is destroyed an air drop is made to that location with a random power up, which can help you to repair or pull enemy fire from your vehicles. You can also change your route during mid play.
The game offers three levels of difficulty and even the casual (easy) difficulty can still be pretty testing.
The game is fairly short with a dozen or so level and depending on your skills can be a short lived, raising the difficultly level and playing through again is still enjoyable the second time.
The game is controlled by selecting on the screen where you wish to place power ups and tapping on new power ups as they are dropped.
The graphics and music are both very good.
On the upside:
- A nice twist of tower defence.
- Easy to play, hard to master.
- Tests your strategic mind.
On the downside:
- A little short.
- Not universal, iPad version need to be purchased seperately.
- A times feels like you are just watching the actions (if you are out of power ups especially.)
- Would be nice to buy power ups with cash, as well as vehicles.
Overall, this is an excellent twist on the tower defence game. I really enjoyed playing the game and just wished that it could have been a little longer. However, it is great fun while it lasts and your strategy still will be tested. If you like tower defence style games and looking for something a little different for the norm, then pick this one up immediately.
