AveComics is a comic book store / reader and is released by AveComics.

I have been looking for a comic book reader since the release of the Touchpad and this was the first I downloaded.

When you first open the applications you will see the store that offers free comics, featured and the whole catalogue. The catalogue can be searched etc.

Once you decide on a comic, you can select to preview (some previews appear to only be the cover, which is not much of a preview) or purchase the comic.

Sign up is done in app, but then you will be asked to click on an email to validate your account. This email appears in French, but you can work out there is a link to click on. I did that and got a Merci (thanks) confirmation. However, after this I was still not able to log in, and therefore was not able to purchase content.

The content available is a bit limited at the moment, it looks like around 185 comics with the majority made up of french titles.

The user interface is fair. Comics open in a seperate card once opened and the store is fairly easy to navigate. However some of the UI is poor, like buy and preview buttons covered by other parts of the UI.

On the upside:

  • It is Free.

On the downside:

  • Most of the contents are in French.
  • Reader experience is not as good as other applications.
  • Creates an unwanted photo directory called Thumbnails with comic book covers.
  • Application needs improved speed and layout.

Overall, this application is not terrible, but needs work. The developers have at least tried to make it international, but for now it is only really of interest to French readers. From the current issues I would not bother downloading for now, maybe after an update.
