THE FANTASTIC FLYING BOOKS OF MR. MORRIS LESSMORE [IPAD] – REVIEW (88%)

09 Aug

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is an animated story book released by Moonbot Studios LA, LLC.

Inspired, in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, “Morris Lessmore” is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor.

The application allow you full control on how you wish to read the book. You can switch off the narrators voice, the music, sound effects and music. You can also skip to any page of the book you wish.

The story itself is the tale of Morris Lessmore on how his life is torn away one day when a strange wind pulls him into a far away land.

This book is mainly for older children and adults, as it is a bit of a sad tale at time (do not worry there is a happy ending.) With that said my two children loved the interaction of many of the pages, even is the story itself did not really grab them.

On the upside:

  • A nice story.
  • Wonderful use of colours and visuals.
  • Some great interaction that put some similar books to shame.

On the downside:

  • Some of the interactions are not clear at first.
  • A little bit of style over substance at times.

Overall, this is a beautiful mix between movie and interactive book. My kids (8 and 4) loved the animation and interacting with the pages several making them laugh. The story itself is nice, but not the best. You can tell the book is based on a story movie as some of the sections are a little disjointed as the book try to compact the movie scenes into the book.
