The Marbians HD is a physics based puzzle game released by Nordisk Film Games Publishing.
The Marbians have crash landed in Roswell New Mexico and need your help to get them home in this retro, marble-themed puzzler.
This game is simple in design, the Marbians is a physics-based marbles game where players will send Marbians careening off walls and around obstacles to collect moon rocks, rack up points and bonuses, and reach their UFO homes.
There are three moon rocks on each level, but you do not need to collect them to finish the level. At least one of your aliens need to be able to get to the UFO to finish the level, otherwise it is game over and you need to replay that level again.
The game is currently has seventy two levels to play through (eight of which are available for free).
The game is control by touching an alien and pulling away from them in the opposite way in which you wish them to travel. You can tap a moving alien to stop them.
The main issue is that every alien can only be moved once, when they stop moving after a push you cannot move them again, it they are bumped by another alien you can still stop that alien and move it again. I found where several of the puzzles used this method in order to complete the level. Even ignoring all the moon rocks I found some levels very difficult to get right (especially if there is a moving section or “movement effecting” objects).
The graphics and sound are both good. The aliens are well animated and the 1950’s inspired music is also good.
On the upside:
- Cute game.
- Fun to play on almost every level.
- Puzzles are generally very well designed.
On the downside:
- Timing and angles on some of the puzzles are very difficult to pull off.
- Not universal – iPhone version has to be purchased separately.
Overall, this is an enjoyable little game, however on later levels I found the timing and angle issues a real problem making me replay levels again and again, which did start to become annoying. The game itself is very good and I think if some of the more difficult levels could be simplified in some way (maybe locate the hard levels and move these into a fourth “hard” box) then this would become a must have game as it ticks all the other boxes
