Big Boss is a side scrolling beat ’em up released by Fair Play Labs.
Big Boss is the tablet version of WackyLands Boss.
You can then create a boss in one of the three profile slots. Once you have creature your monster from the limited options available (more is unlocked as you progress through the game and gain levels).
There is a short tutorial that takes you through the basics and then during the game pop up screens will appear to let you know what a new item or power does, which is helpful.
The game itself is a fairly standard beat-em up as you move to the opponents and do a fast light hit or a heavy slow hit. There are special powers that can be unlocked as you move though the game, and these can be accessed via buttons on the top of the screen. The special attacks as enjoyable to use, but will take a while to recharge.
As extras, you can unlock three mini games as you progress through the game.
The game can be controlled by swiping the screen or via a d-pad which can be switched on in the options, for me the d-pad was certainly the best method.
The graphics are very good with the boss you create always being loveable. The sounds are also good.
The Touchpad version just seems better than its iOS counterpart, controls seem a little more responsive and the enemy do not run away so much (which was annoying on the other versions). The North Pole levels that are available in the iPad version are not showing at this time, but they should be included soon.
On the upside:
- Great fun evolving your monster.
- Playing “Dress Up” on your monster is almost a game in its own right.
- Nicely designed game
On the downside:.
- Longevity may be an issue.
- Some of the boss battles can be annoyingly hard (just remember to roll a lot.)
Overall, this is the best version of Wackyland boss. The game is enjoyable to play and very good for kids. You will find yourself rolling like a bowling ball a lot of the time to avoid attacks and get close to the enemies. The game can also be tough at times especially in the boss battles, so he need to make sure you have equiped the best equipment you can buy. This is a great little game and a good addition to the Touchpad catalogue, it is great fun when you just want to smash and destroy something for five or ten minutes.
