BOX FOR TOUCHPAD – REVIEW (80%)

29 Jul

Box for Touchpad – 50 GB Free is an application to access and use your cloud storage provided by box.net.

Box.Net (www.box.net) is a company that offers free online storage to users (5GB for free) so you can store you files remotely and securely. However, Box.Net have done a very special deal with Touchpad users, if you sign up from the application you get 50 GB for free, and that is a lot of storage.

The application basically allows you access your Box.Net account from the Touchpad. You easily add and download your files between the cloud and the Touchpad. If you have a computer then you can upload and download these files from the box.net website, so this is a great way of sharing data with another device.

The application does not allow you to view the file directly, which is a shame if you have several files with a similar name (such as photos)

On the upside:

  • Having access to these files remotely allows you to not use up local storage
  • A get way of getting files on and off the Touchpad.
  • Very easy to use interface.
  • 50 GB of free storage.

On the downside:

  • No preview of files.
  • If you wish to upload a document, you need a good idea what the file name is to find it.

To be honest the biggest strength of this application is the box.net service itself, several developers are offering options to save your files direct into box.net, however, it is not as many that support the Dropbox service.

Overall, this is a nice application, and does what it was designed to do. It is a great way to expand the storage of your device and allows you to grab files without the need to store them on your device until they are needed. A preview feature for seeing images or PDF etc would have been a nice addition, maybe they will add this in a future release.
