Reckless Getaway is a top down racing game released by Polarbit.
Who’d a thought robbing the bank would be the easy part? Now comes the real challenge – to escape with your hard-earned loot having the fuzz hot at your heels!
Yes, a bit of a dodgy storyline, but makes for a great car chases.
The application opens with a tutorial that gives you a basics of the game.
There are 16 main levels to the game split into areas such as (suburban, desert and ocean). As you finish a level the next unlocks, when you are going to change areas you need to have enough stars to move onto the next area. Each level take around five minutes or so to play.
The game has you racing along roads and dirt tracks. You need to avoid being smashed off the road by the police and head on collisions with oncoming vehicles and large solid objects. During the race you gain points for smashing things up and collection coins. Get enough points and you will be awarded a star (maximum of four available), if you smash you car up badly one of the available stars will be lost.
There are a few power ups along the way to make things interesting like jumping, turbo and repulsion (that throws cars away from yours). For most of the game you are limited to one vehicle, but you do get to drive an armoured car at one point.
The game is controlled either by touching left or right arrows to steer and then a button for the power ups, or by tilt controls.
The graphics are very good with some impressive landscapes. The games runs very smoothly. The music is also generally good.
On the upside:
- Easy to play, tough to master.
- Fast and fun gameplay.
On the downside:
- Stars can be hard to get on some levels.
- Not always enough warning before the road takes a major change of direction (need to learn roads)
Overall, this game is very good. It is not going to have a lot of longevity, but hopefully more levels will be added over time, and it will take a while to get the stars to unlock the last area. This is an great application for the casual gamer who wants to pickup and play for short period. There is one word that somes this game up “FUN”.
