Angry Birds HD is an excellent “catapult puzzler” released by Rovio Mobile Ltd.

(Logo from iPad version)

Angry Birds has been on the mobile platform for a long time now. It is now a multi-million dollar product, so not unsurprisingly made the move onto the Touchpad.

If you have not heard of Angry Birds (which rock have you been living under?) the game is basically a puzzle game, but so much more. You are given a set amount of birds each level, and you can fire them in order from the catapult. There are several pigs hidden within building etc made of stone, wood or glass (often all three) and you need to find a way to destroy all the pigs on the level. It looks and sounds easy, but as the game progresses the task becomes more and more complex.

The sound and presentation are excellent and you too, will grow to hate those pigs as they smile and laugh as you fail on a level. I would say that the graphic even look slightly better than the iPad version.

The good news is that the Touchpad is a solid conversion and best of all Free. It does not have all the features of some of the other versions (iPad) like the Angry Eagle, but as these are paid content it is not a major issue.

For those who have not heard there is an easter egg in the app, that does not rotate the screen when in landscape. If you play the game upside down, then close. You can pull the app card down on the main screen and you hear the slingshot, pull enough and let go. The card will close shooting off the screen with a “wheee” sound effect.

On the upside:

  • It is easy to play and hard to put down.
  • The game is large (especially after the recent updates) so will keep you going for some time.
  • Some of the puzzles will have to think hard on how to achieve with the birds you have been give.

On the downside:

  • This game is addictive, you will lose a lot of time playing this game.

Overall, this is a wonderful game to play. It is addictive and will keep you coming back for more. It is truly a truly addictive game, that many others have tried to copy and have failed. If you have played any other versions of this game you will not be disappointed and if you have never played before you are likely to be very impressed and addicted in no time.
