DUCATI CHALLENGE HD [IPAD] – REVIEW (78%)

01 Jul

Ducati Challenge HD is an official Ducati racing game release by Digital Tales.

This game put you into the saddle of several official Ducati motorbikes as you play through the racing challenges.

The application gives you several tracks to race through and several bikes including the Monster 1100 EVO, Streetfighter S and Superbike 1198 SP.

The single player mode consists of a quick race mode or a championship. As you progress through the game you will unlock various pictures and achievements. The championship is split up into three difficulty levels (easy, medium and hard)

The game itself although solid, does not feel like true racing at times. There seems to be no real speed in the game and in the easy levels the other bikers almost park if you fall from the bike. The auto brake does not seem to work quite right with you slowing when you are trying to accelerate.

There is also a multiplayer game which can be played via WiFi.

The games default controls are done via tilt controls for steering and then buttons for the brake and accelerator, which generally work well.

The graphics and sound are generally good, with the odd background pop up while driving.

On the upside:

  • If you like Ducati bikes you will be happy with the bikes on offer.

On the downside:

  • No real feeling of speed.
  • Some of the tracks are long, so will take over ten minutes to complete a race.

Overall, this is a solid racing game and has improved from it’s original release. It still needs serveral tweaks to improve things, but it does fill the gap of a good 3D motorbike racing game on the iOS platform. When I played this game for the first time I got the feel of the original need for speed game (for the PC) where the speed of the vehicle did not match the visuals. I can only hope with time the slowness of the game is fixed, like it was on need for speed.
