POWERSLIDE PENGUIN [IPHONE] – REVIEW (74%)

28 Jun

Powerslide Penguin is a physic based puzzle game released by Chillingo Ltd.

You are put into the role of Penn Gwynn, the power sliding penguin who needs to recover the money stolen from Chilly City Bank by the dastardly Pengros.

The game is designed with an area in which you slide around in, with several objects blocking your way from getting to the exit gem. Along the way you need to collect money and other power ups. There are complications added along the way with moving floors, bumpers and ememies that will kill you in one touch.

The gameplay is fun with of similarities to games like To-fu: the trials of chi, with you being able to take as long as you need and inifinate slides to complete the level. However, to get the maximum achievements you have limits to time and slides to do levels in.

The game is controlled by dragging the your finger back in a reverse direction of the direction you wish to travel.

The sound and graphics are good.

On a side point, there are two versions of this game, this one (non retina display and not universal , but £0.59 cheaper, which is nice if you have an older iPhone or iPod Touch.)

On the upside:

  • Well designed puzzles.
  • Fun gameplay.

On the downside:

  • Two versions of the game, you need to select before download.
  • Gameplay need a few tweaks.

Overall, I liked this puzzle game and it was fun to play in the early levels. However, as the game progress and enemies are added who can kill you in one touch the game became a little more annoying. You can quickly change direction during a slide, but the size of display does not always make this easy. I think the HD version of this game would be a better purchase if you have the devices to play them on.
