Rip Off is a mix between Fruit Ninja and a defence game and is released by Colorbox.
The game has just dropped to free, for a limited time, so we decided to take a look.
The game puts you in control of a little yellow bird who needs to protect its brothers and sisters who are still in their eggs from an evil horde of egg snatches.
Immediately on starting this game is becomes apparent that this game borrows heavily from Fruit Ninja, but gives its own twist to the gameplay style.
The basics of the game, is the bird will fly from his present position in a straight line to the new location which you have tapped on. if the location is in the sky, then the bird will drift down to the ground. He has three eggs to protect and if they are all taken then it is game over. There are also bombs that enter the screen, and if you hit them it is an immediate game over.
The game is controlled by tapping areas on the screen for the bird to fly to.
The graphics and sound are good, but I found the music a bit repetitive.
On the upside:
- Fast and Fun gameplay
- Interesting twist on the game style.
On the downside:
- Too much like all the other fruit ninja clones out there.
- No game center support
- Too many bombs appear, hard to avoid if you have already started a flight from one location to another.
- Not universal, HD version can be purchased seperately.
Overall, the game is fun to play, but the lack of game modes and longevity do limit the game somewhat. If I had not just spent some time playing Kung Fu Panda 2 and a Marvel game that both had Fruit Ninja elements I would have probably enjoyed it more. Rip Off does live up to its name and does borrow heavily on Fruit Ninja and the likes. I feel if a new game mode was added and the bombs did not appear so much this game could be improved.
