ELMER’S SPECIAL DAY – REVIEW (80%)

12 May

Elmer’s special day is an e-book / audio book and is published by Oceanhouse Media.

This book gives you the options of reading the book yourself, having the read to you (and you control the page turns) or the complete book read to you automatically. The application also adds extra interaction by touching something on the screen the name appears in print and word is spoken.

The story is by David McKee and is a tale based on a patchwork coloured Elephant who the rest of the Elephants love and have a special day where they have a parade.

This book is fun for kids and a nice read for adults.

The had not read David McKee’s Elmer’s books before (which is surprising as he is also based in the U.K.) so was not able to answer my childrens questions of why Elmer is patchwork coloured. It seems an odd order to release the books, but there is more than likely a reason behind this.

On the upside:

  • Interactive with the book adds to the “re-readability” of the book.
  • Universal for iPad and iPhone
  • Nicely drawn and animated

On the downside:

  • No page selector to jump into the story to your favorite bit of the book.

Overall, the book is a nice book and my kids enjoyed the story and laughed at the later stages of the book. If you are a fan of the Elmer books then this is a must have.
