Spider Jack is an action puzzle game and is released by

The immediate thing that grabs you are soon as you start the game is, this looks like a rope the rope clone, and in many ways it is. However, the developers have been clearly inspired by the game, but made their own twist on the gameplay allowing it to stand as its own title rather than being a direct clone.

The game puts you in control of Jack the spider, who has an appetite for flys, he needs to travel from his nest to where a fly is caught in one of his webs.

The basics of the game, is your need to guide Jack through various enviroments to reach his goal, this is done by swinging him to pegs he can climb up to and cutting his webbing to make him fall. Many of the levels have things like teleporter, bubble and hair dyers that effect how Jack falls or climbs.

At the moment the game contains three levels, the barn, the bathroom and the laboratory that Jack needs to progress through. There are twenty five levels in each, but only twenty of these can be opened in game, the others can only be unlocked by gifting the levels to friends and then getting the gift yourself when done. This is really just a way to make you sign up to the crystal network, and then give them emails, twitter accounts etc of yourself and your buddies, something I will not do.

The game is controlled by tapping peg and swiping to cut the webbing.

The graphics and sound are very good. Jack is cut and the music is very similar to cut the rope.

On the upside:

  • Fun gameplay
  • Cute graphics

On the downside:

  • Very short, completed in about of three hours of play
  • Poor having fifteen levels I am unwilling to unlock.

Overall, this is a fun and addictive game to play. The puzzles are generally very good requiring thought and timing to complete, but none of them are impossible. The game is a little short lived at the moment, but more levels are promised. At the moment, the game is more for casual gamers that only have a few minutes to spare now and again. If the developers would unlock the fifteen levels without using crystal and then added another twenty five soon I would be very happy. If you have finished (or just like) cut the rope, then this is a great alternative.
