Death Rally is a top down combat driving game released by Remedy Entertainment Ltd.
The idea behind the game is that you have been arrested by some rogue police officers who have decided to enter you into an event called Death Rally, in order to get the Adversary out of hiding, so they can arrest him when he takes you on. [Needless to say this never happens.]
The Menu system is very basic with your garage and available races, there is not even a title screen.
The basics are the game, is you will select a track to race on (you can go through the game avoiding most the tracks if you wish, I began to focus on Oasis and The Pits, as they were my favorite tracks) and then you will be put into the race against five other opponents, one of which is a boss.
At the end of the race you get money, with which you can purchase upgrades to the vehicle and weapons. If you vehicle cannot be upgraded further the money is changed into fame.
The game is controlled by using a virtual joystick and a button to fire your special weapons.
The graphics and sound are very good, especially watching how damage is really knocking your vehicles to piece.
On the upside:
- Fun, fast and furious top down driving game
- Addictive gameplay
- Lots of upgrades and power ups
- Universal Application
On the downside:
- The game cheats like crazy, especially with the adversary
- Controls are not 100%, you will slow or go out of control sometimes if you thumb slips.
- Appears easier on the iPhone than iPad for some reason.
- The game appears to have no ending?
- Currently no multiplayer option.
Overall, I found this game playable and annoying at the same time. When the game cheated for the tenth time to allow the adversary to win, I still wanted one more go to beat him. The game is moreish, as the races are very quick and generally fun. It took me about seven hours to get top fame, all vehicles and weapons unlocked and maxed out, I had better the adversary three times, but the game still did not end. It you like top down driving games, then this game is definately worth adding to your collection. The downside issues can be fixed in a future patch very easily.
