The Witcher: Versus is a online challenge game released by Chillingo Ltd.
A few year ago, The Witcher was released on PC as a high quality RPG game, that many people loved, since then it has been enhanced, and there is now The Witcher 2, so when the iOS version of the game was announced lots of people looked on with interest. Would this be a high quality RPG on the iOS… No, it is Rock-Paper-Scissors.
You can select from three character types when you create your character, but this seems to have little effect on the game, apart from the graphics shown in combat.
The idea behind the game is to gain levels by fighting against other opponents online, and building up you skills etc. However, combat is done by preselecting attacking and defence options first, then when the challenge is accepted, they are played out on the screen with no real interact for the user, they just watch there character win or lose, automatically.
The application is controlled selecting the options for the rotatable menu system. The main game is played by selecting a group of attacking icons and then defensive icons. You can issue and accept challenges for opponents.
The sound and graphics are both good.
On the upside:
- Well designed user interface.
- Nice graphics and music
On the downside:
- Very dull game, with luck and premium purchases allowing you to fail or win.
- As this is played online, you rely on other people accepting your challenges etc.
Overall, this is a bit of a disappointment, if you have played the Witcher game on the PC, then you too will real let down by this version. An online version of rock-paper-scissors may appeal to some people, but I think this game is more suited to Facebook than iOS.
