The Last Stand: Zombie Apocalypse is a twin stick shooter released by 7 Raven Studios.
You play a gun wielding survivor of a zombie apocalypse who needs to fight off hordes of zombies to continue your survival.
The idea of the game in the campaign mode is to survive wave after wave of zombies and other creatures getting the cash to upgrade and buy new weapons to aid you. There is also a survival mode which is an endless attack.
The game is control by using the now standard twin stick method, a virtual d-pad under one thumb and a 360 degree gun under the other.
Each wave adds something new into the mix and there is an end with a final boss.
This game play area is generally small and the weaponary even when fully powered up (this can be done in survival at the start) is not overly impressive, but useable.
The graphics and sound are generally good, the background is a little lack luster. The wise cracking of the hero is can be both fun and then slowly becomes annoying.
On the upside:
- Wise cracking hero
- Solid twin stick shooting
On the downside:
- Repetitive gameplay
- A little slow to advance on Campaign
Overall, this is solid twin stick shooter, it is well designed and nicely presented. It tries to add something new with every wave and has a lot going for it. However, the arena areas are small and to be honest there are better twin sticks at the £0.59 price point. If you love your zombies and like twin stick shooters this is well worth a look. There is also a Free lite version to see if the game is really for you.
