Hunters: Episode One is a turn-based strategy game released by Rodeo Games.
The game puts you in command of a small group of hunters, mercenaries if you will, who are giving various missions to select from and complete. There are several types of missions to select from ranging from destorying something, finding something, defending something and escort missions.
Each of the hunters have there own abilites and you are given five to start the game with. Some of the missions are limited to a number of hunters, but this is not an issue in the free side of the game. I wish that you could have a bit more control over the hunters, like name and starting abilities.
Talking of the free side of the game, you can play the game for free, but you are capped at level three and you cannot have access to more hunters or special equipment.
The basics of the mission are you are given a deployment area, where you place your hunters, and then you move all your hunters in turn, then click on the egg timer, and it is the enemies turn to make their moves. You have a set objective on the map, and a bonus objective which will gain you additional money.
The game is controlled by tapping on the hunter and then selecting the square you want to move to or the enemy you wish to attack. I wish there was an undo button, but after all there is not one in real life.
The graphics and sound are excellent. You are able to zoom in and out on the battle field so you get a great idea of what is coming up and ambush points.
On the upside:
- Well designed
- Strategy play is very good, with upgrades and enhancements possible.
On the downside:
- No two player option – yet.
- The adverts do not seem to load in the mission screen.
- The display gets a little small with very long ranged combat.
Overall, Hunters is an excellent game and I can highly recommend it. Rodeo have made good use of the zooming to make sure that the iPhone screen size is used well. If you are looking for a great turn based strategy game for the iPhone, look no further, you have just found what you are looking for.
