Sailboat Championship is a sail boat racing game released by Infinite Dreams Inc.

The game puts you in control of a new sail boat, you are then given various course and races to compete in. During the races you will gain stars and experience, these are then used to unlock new levels and courses. You can hire a sailor to help with the sails, but this is fairly easy to do yourself, and you get more experience if you are controlling the sails.

As you increase in level by getting experience, you can spend the experience to upgrade your boat.

The basic idea of the game is to sail round a course either in the fastest time or to beat the computer controlled competitors.

The game is controlled by using the arrow keys, up and down control the sails for catching the wind and the left and right keys are used for steering the boat.

The graphics and sound are excellent, the water effects are nice, and the way they show the wind direction is good without undermining the lovely visuals.

On the upside:

  • A more relaxed style of racing game.
  • Lots to do and unlock.
  • Lovely water effects.

On the downside:

  • It is a bit difficult to unlock levels to start with, with you may have to replay the same levels several times.
  • Takes a while to get the hang of how to use the wind etc, but worth the time in the end.
  • No multiplayer options.

Overall, this is a very good game and fun to play, even it you are not a big fan of sailing. I had my doubts about this one when it appeared on my list of applications to review, but I was pleasantly surprised. The guys at Infinite Dreams Inc just seem to be able to make good games from the strangest ideas (Create Pottery for one) This game is well worth checking out.
