Land-a Panda is a puzzle game released by Big Pixel Studios.
The idea of the game is to help Yang Guang (a lovestruck male Panda) to meet his dream partner Tian Tian (female panda) in this puzzle game.
The basics of the game, is you drop a weight onto a see-saw launching Yang Guang into the air, and he will land in a cannon, from there you need to fire the cannons to get the panda across the screen (collecting coins if you can) and landing next to the female panda.
The game is controlled by tapping the cannons when they are in the correct position for the panda to travel to the next cannon or the female panda. Some cannons rotate automatically and some you can manually rotate using buttons that appear on the lower area of the screen.
The graphics and sound are very good. The graphics have a unique retro style that looks great and also makes the pandas cute, and plucks at the heart strings when the two panda’s fail to meet.
There is not a lot of difference between the iPhone and iPad versions, I think the iPad looks better due to the screen size.
On the upside:
- Well designed puzzle game
- Cute graphics
On the downside:
- Not a universal app
- Frustrating when you cannot get the right angles and timing
- Becomes repetitive.
- I would have liked to have seen a pinch zoom on some of the bigger levels.
Overall, I enjoyed this puzzle game, especially in the earlier levels, however as they game progressed I found that the puzzles began to feel very repetitive, the game does add a few additions to the basic formula, but the gameplay stays very similar. If you like puzzle games that need timing and working out angles then this could be the game for you.
