BIG BOSS – REVIEW (80%)

05 Mar

Big Boss is a side scrolling beat ’em up released by Chillingo Ltd.

Big Boss is the iPad only version of WackyLands Boss.

You can then create a boss in one of the three profile slots. Once you have creature your monster from the limited options available (more is unlocked as you progress through the game and gain levels) you can attack your first humans in the sort tutorial.

The game itself is a standard beat-em up as you move to the opponents and do a fast light hit or a heavy slow hit. There are special powers that can be unlocked as you move though the game, and these can be accessed via buttons on the top of the screen.

As extras, you can unlock three mini games as you progress through the game, and there are also achievements to gain, as this game has game center support.

The game can be controlled by swiping the screen or via a d-pad which can be switched on in the options, for me the d-pad was certainly the best method.

The graphics are very good with the boss you create always being loveable. The sounds are also good.

The iPad version just seems better than the iPhone counterpart, the extra screen size allows easier access to everything, and control.

On the upside:

  • Great fun evolving your monster
  • Nicely designed game

On the downside:

  • The boss is a little too slow to move at times.
  • Longevity may be an issue.

Overall, this is the best version of Wackyland boss. The game is enjoyable to play and very good for kids. I find the hulking boss a bit slow to turn at times, but then again if he moved too quick you would lose the hulking feel. You will find yourself rolling like a bowling ball a lot of the time to avoid attacks and get close to the enemies. This is a nice game to have on your device when you just want to smash and destroy something for five or ten minutes.
