NeonBattle HD is an vetro graphic shooter come defence game released by Chillingo Ltd.
The game is basically split into two. There is a defence game, which has you launching different style missiles at your opponents end of the screen. You can sell power ups by clicking on them first and you have a cannon to defend your shield from the opponent.
The other side of the game is a survival mode, which is more like a shooter, with your static cannon shooting the oncoming alien attack waves. There are lots of power ups to change your cannon into a plasma thrower, laser etc.
The defence game comes into its own on multiplayer, being great fun. The computer does a good job a giving a challenge, but there really is no get fun to be had defeating it.
The graphics are very retro in style, but a well done, with some excellent lighting effects. The sound is generally good.
On the upside:
- An excellent multiplayer game
On the downside:
- Dull against the computer in any mode
Overall, this is good multiplayer game, it is great fun, especially on the iPad version trying to sell the power ups before your opponent. However, the single player version is a bit dull. The survival game in single player is solid, but I just sat there ten minutes in deciding if to quite the game or not. If it was not for the multiplayer game this game would rate a lot lower.
